When it comes to frameworks for WordPress themes, the options are plenty but few names stand out from the crowd. One such name is Genesis. Genesis is an extremely popular and well-loved WordPress theme framework from the stable of StudioPress. It has its own share of loyal followers and users, which range from theme creators, designers and developers to even the casual end users. Recently, Genesis Framework came out with its latest release, Genesis 2.0 In this article, I shall be taking a look at some of the salient features of this newest version of the popular theme framework.

That said, Genesis 2.0 really looks good. As is obvious, StudioPress have timed the launch of Genesis 2.0 with the release of WordPress 3.6 Quite obviously, Genesis 2.0 does not fall short of making use of the newer features of WP 3.6, especially the security updates and fixes. All in all, Genesis 2.0 seems to be a good package, and even though the update process may seem to be a pain for some (to be honest, irrespective of which framework you are using, most of the time updating from one major release to another can be irksome, to say the least), StudioPress have tried their best to ensure that the transition goes smooth for every Genesis user out there.
The documentation to help you transition from Genesis 1.0 to Genesis 2.0 is in good shape, and there are a healthy number of snippets to help you accomplish tasks such as activation of HTML5 markup, and so on. However, I would say that the documentation is still being added/updated, so there might be some level of patience required therein.

Apart from HTML5 markup and mobile responsiveness, Genesis 2.0 comes with several other new additions and features, such as:- Widget classes have now been coded in PHP5 format.
- Better named hooks for HTML5.
- Minification for admin CSS and JavaScript.
- Removal of inline HTML comments (reduces page size).
- When editing an entry, the Scripts option now has its own metabox.
- Custom Post Type archive pages now have a separate settings page.
- Entries sans titles can now display a permalink after the post content.
- You can make use of entry IDs to prohibit duplicate entries from showing on a page.
- If running in WordPress Multisite mode, the Network Upgrade mechanism upgrades the database for all sites in a network.

Good in-depth review of Genesis.
I’m with you all the way – this is a great theme framework and with each update it gets better and better.
Updating old themes to Genesis 2.0 is absolutely no problem, but if you want to activate HTML5, that is a little trickier.
The guys at Studiopress have worked hard to make the updating process pretty painless and lots of Genesis users have produced tutorials and tools to help out.
My verdict – I love Genesis.
Genesis 2.0 brings lot of new features and improvements. While new stuff is all interesting, they didn’t leave old users in dark. With perfect backward compatibility built in the framework, old themes work just fine even one new Genesis 2.0 allowing healthy time period to update child themes !
Impressive theme, Sufyan. Genesis looks elegant, spare, and beautiful. Too many themes are cluttered–especially those that are free. Thanks for introducing this new one to me!
Absolutely loving Genesis 2.0 so far and yet it feels like we haven’t scratched the surface with it. Still yet to really get to terms with the Schema part of it, lots to learn and lots of fun along the way i expect!

I just moved to Genesis framework and feel very comfortable with genesis, loved it.
Fro those who might not know, supporting shema.org or MicroData means Higher CTR on SERPS. I say that even if thesis is better yesterday, Genesis has much expansion potential.
I have used Genesis for a long time but I waited this time to see if the latest update is really worth going for or not. But now that I know Genesis 2.0 is a great update I would update it on my blog right away.
Plus the default theme is really good and it doesn’t seem that there will be any need for a new child theme.
