Best of 2016: 100 Free Fonts

2016 was a difficult year for typography, and 2017 does not promise to be much easier. The entire previous year, this integral element of UI underwent changes. It was a constant subject to trends. At first, there were designs with the huge bold almost overwhelming fonts, hand-written scripts, regular types used in shared spaces. Then, the retro typefaces, vertical lettering used in primary navigation, hollow symbols, masking applied to the titles came in the stead. This year is also going to be pretty busy since experiments with the typefaces are carrying on.

With all this hype around the typography, it is always a good thing to have one or two good-looking fonts at your fingertips. The more so, regardless of the situation, it still plays a vital role in conveying the message to the user and reflecting the general atmosphere of the interface. It will always be in the designer's arsenal of essential instruments. It is one of those tiny details that can easily upset all the harmony and destroy the first impression up to the hilt as well as save the day and separate your project from the others. So, it should be treated with the respect.

Today we want to remind you about a hundred of beautiful, carefully-optimized and vigilantly–crafted typefaces that were popular in 2016. Although all of them are free; not all of them can be used in commercial projects. Please, be careful when applying them in your future works.
